Can the Countryside Be For Everyone?

Can the Countryside be for everyone?

Can the Countryside be for everyone?

On another beautiful day at Church Farm the thoughts of strawberries were on people’s minds and we had some more delightful visitors from Welwyn Garden City to Poland!

One family stood out though as it was the first time the mother who has Multiple Sclerosis had ever picked strawberries.  This was made possible by the presence of the farm, the use of a simple kneeler and the accessbility of the strawberry patch.

She lives with her family in a flat with no garden and her husband commented that if he could make a living on a farm he would give up his job tomorrow.

Their young daughter with strawberry coloured fingers was part of this rural adventure.

At Rural Care each week the farm has people with a range of disabilities accessing work experience on the farm, with the animals, with nature in all it’s grandeur.

These are cases of connecting with nature made possible by dreams,

dedication, thoughtfulness and inspiration.

What one word describes the strawberry you just tried?

These were some of the words given by lucky people at the farm today who got to sample a strawberry or two….

Sweet – this was our top answer of the day.

Our French visitors went for Wonderful

and the best new word of the day was…

Wimbledon must be just around the corner.

Reaching For The Sun

Dear Sunflower followers,

The Sunflowers are really starting to get going now and we are showing them off outside Rural Care and alongside the entrance.

Number 1 has fallen behind since starting us off and no 100 looks to have had a little too much sun and not enough water.

Number 20 on the other hand is looking good as a potential winner for this month.

Pictures of the official measures will begin to appear as the competition hots up.

(As well as the weather of course).

Reaching For The Sun

The SunFlower Followers of Church Farm have already supported 52 Sunflowers which are now reaching for the Sun in support of Rural Care where our co-farmers come and work on the farm.

For us that equals a new drill already in action and alongside our plastic shovels we are moving along in our use of adapted tools to enable people to do more in their local community.

Watch out for the Sunflowers when you come to the Farm.
